cor·ti·sol

Cortisol is a steroid hormone found in the glucocorticoid class of hormones. Produced within the adrenal gland, cortisol is often referred to as the "stress" hormone because it is released in response to stress and low blood-glucose. Cortisol increases blood sugar through a process called gluconeogenesis, that suppresses the immune system and help metabolises fat, protein, and carbohydrates. It also decreases bone formation.

Under stressful conditions, cortisol provides the body with glucose by tapping into protein stores through gluconeogenesis in the liver. This energy helps you engage the fight or flee response to a stressful condition. However, elevated cortisol levels over long periods of time cause the body to consistently produce glucose, leading to increased blood sugar levels. Elevated cortisol levels interfere with learning and memory, lower immune function and bone density, increase weight gain, blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease and more.

Chronic stress and resulting elevated cortisol levels also increase your risk for depression, mental illness, and lower your life expectancy.

mel·a·to·nin

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland which is intimately involved in regulating the sleeping and waking cycles, among other body processes.

Your urine samples will test: Diurnal Melatonin (MT6s x 4), Free Cortisol (Cx4) levels.

You may want to consider this test if you have:

  • An inability to get to sleep
  • Frequent waking
  • Acute or chronic sleeplessness affecting your vitality
  • Cognition risks
  • Weight risks
  • Diabetes risks

Everything you need to collect your sample and return it to the lab is included in the test kit you will receive.

Your test results will be returned to us within 5 to 7 business days from the date the lab receives your sample. Once we know that your results are available, we will send you an email so that you can login and review them.

For now, you can take a look at a sample report for this test.

NOTE: Per state laws, if you live in California, you will need to email us a prescription from a medical practitioner (could be a physician, physician's assistant, naturopath etc.) in order for us to process your order and send you your test. New York residents may not receive tests per state laws. Having your tests shipped to you outside of California or New York may be the best way to go. (The Air Quality tests and Pet tests do NOT need a prescription and can be sent anywhere needed.)

Sleep Balance Profile Home Health Test

Close to 20% of Americans deal with some degree of insomnia and most are totally unaware of how hormones affect the ability to get a good night's sleep. And according to the Department of Health & Human Services, over a third of U.S. adults experience such serious daytime sleepiness that it interferes with their work, decision-making and social functioning. If you get six or less hours of sleep per night, you are experiencing sleep deprivation which could result in long term consequences such as depression, obesity and diabetes among others.

When your hormones are operating perfectly, the main stress hormone, cortisol, is doing a balanced dance in sync with the main sleep hormone, melatonin. Each counter-balances the other in a precise rhythm and like a balanced see-saw, if cortisol is high, your melatonin should be low, and vice versa, when melatonin is high, your cortisol should be low.

The Sleep Balance Profile Home Test evaluates the Circadian Rhythm of Melatonin in concert with Urinary Free Cortisol (UFC) to assess sleep/wake cycle dysfunction. The industry's most accurate sleep-wake cycle testing reveals whether hormones are your hidden barrier to restful sleep.

Urine is collected on filter strips 4 times throughout the day, representative of the peaks and valleys of melatonin and Cortisol production during a true 24-hour sleep-wake pattern.

Please note that because return postage is included with this test kit, there is an extra shipping charge of $10. (This extra charge is NOT added to the Canine Health Check Test Kit or Any of the Air Quality Test Kits.

Everything you need to collect your sample and return it to the lab is included. You should receive your results approximately 5 to 7 business days after the lab has received your sample. There are no additional lab or postage fees required after test purchase.

This is a safe, easy home urine test for men or women of any age.
